What will the Big Ten look like for USC in 2027?

We talked to Kristian Dyer, the editor of Rutgers Wire, about the Big Ten and several storylines attached to the conference which will be USC’s new home in two years. One of our questions to Dyer was about the long-term configuration of the league after USC joins:

Trojans Wire: What’s your assessment of how or when the Big Ten will expand, and what its configuration will be in 4-5 years?

Kristian Dyer: Notre Dame. Notre Dame. Notre Dame. If the Big Ten can land Notre Dame, then a lot of other pieces fall in place. Adding Notre Dame probably means the Big Ten expands to 20, with four pods of five universities. Is that crazy? Well, it’s what I’m proposing. And then you’re probably looking at the Big Ten eyeing two more programs. Oregon and Washington would fit the bill in terms of being AAU institutions and having the athletics. I’m intrigued by Arizona in all of this too. That would leave one spot after Notre Dame, Oregon and Washington are added. I think going East Coast to balance that side would be ideal. That would likely mean Virginia or North Carolina. I could see Boston College since they check off a lot of boxes but they aren’t an AAU program.
