Bike Week 2023: Burning Bike and other motorcycle events found outside Daytona Beach

Daytona Beach, particularly Main Street, is the heart of Bike Week, but there's still fun to be found in the surrounding cities.

The 10-day event, which begins March 3 and rolls to a stop on March 12, is expected to draw at least 500,000 visitors according to officials.

Here are five options outside of Daytona Beach where motorcycle enthusiasts can find camaraderie:

Fastlane Campground

WHERE: Volusia County Fairgrounds, 3150 E. New York Ave., DeLand

WHAT: Hotels fill up fast, so for those looking for a place to stay with restrooms and shower facilities on-site, the fairgrounds are an option. Tent camping is $15 per night per person or $90 for all of Bike Week.

There also are full RV hookups starting at $75 per night per two people. Trailer parking is $100 for all 10 days.

WHEN: The fairgrounds open to Bike Week campers at 10 a.m. on March 3.

Burning Bike

The Burning Bike tradition gives people the chance to write a message to a lost loved one on the 75-foot wooden motorcycle, which will be set on fire at the Volusia County Fairgrounds during Bike Week.

WHERE: Volusia County Fairgrounds, 3150 E. New York Ave., DeLand

WHAT: Bike Week attendees are invited to participate in the annual Burning Bike event organized by Fastlane Promotions. Visitors may write on the 75-foot handmade wooden motorcycle beforehand, and "all the written messages are sent up above to the ones we love and so dearly miss," according to officialbikeweek.com, where attendees can find additional details.

WHEN: Festivities begin at 5 p.m. on March 10.

Sons of Speed

WHERE: New Smyrna Speedway, 3939 FL-44, New Smyrna Beach

WHAT: Billy Lane, of Choppers Inc., and the Sons of Speed will race vintage motorcycles at 90 mph. General admission for adults and children is $20 and $10, respectively.

WHEN: Gates open at 11 a.m. on March 4, and the races begin at noon.

Sons of the American Legion barbecue

WHERE: 156 Britain Ave., Ormond Beach

WHAT: American Legion Post No. 267 will cook up sliced pork tenderloin, pulled pork sandwiches and smoked chicken wings. For $15, patrons may choose one of the meats; sides include corn on the cob, coleslaw and beans. All proceeds benefit charities serving veterans.

WHEN: Noon to 5 p.m. on March 4.

Blessing of the Bikes

WHERE: Leather & Lace MC clubhouse, 574 W. Ariel Road, Edgewater

WHAT: The women's motorcycle club will host a free pancake breakfast followed by the blessing of the motorcycles.

WHEN: Gates open at 9 a.m. on March 5. Breakfast will be served until 10:30 a.m., and the bike blessing at 11 a.m. sharp.
