Bill to allow permitless conceal carry to return in 2024 Legislative Session
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A bill to allow permitless concealed carry in Louisiana was pre-filed to be re-introduced to the Legislature.
In the final days of the 2023 Legislative Session, the bill that State Rep. Danny McCormick, R-Oil City, wrote, was dropped as McCormick disagreed with the changes that were made to his proposed bill.
The bill proposed that Louisiana residents 18 and older could possess and conceal carry a firearm without licensing or training. It was intended to be part of a national movement deemed “Constitutional Carry,” which has been passed in neighboring states.

The changes that were made raised the minimum age limit to 21 years old and would reduce the required time of training to earn the license. The bill was vetoed by governors in the past and received backlash as it could put others in danger.
