In all great battles, there’s little room for neutrality. And Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has decided on which side of the “Barbenheimer” battle lines he stands.

During a post-practice chat with former Patriots personnel director-turned-analyst Scott Pioli, the conversation turned to film study. Not play actions or cover two, but the great works of cinema taking movie theaters by storm.

Piolo noted that the 71-year-old head coach has treated the team to a movie-going night during training camp. But don’t expect to see Bill in his best Barbie attire anytime soon.

“That wouldn’t be one of them,” Belichick stated with little hesitation.

But when Pioli mentions Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’, the six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach’s curiosity is clearly piqued.

“I haven’t seen that. That’d be interesting,” said an intrigued Belichick.

When Pioli questioned Belichick on his methodology for choosing a movie, Bill said he focuses more on getting out of the hot summer sun than whether the movie is in 70 mm IMAX or its message about female empowerment.

“Just glad to get out of meetings and go to an air-conditioned room and sit back and watch a movie. Have the candy and snacks that they weren’t allowed to have in the training rooms. There’s certainly messages, speakers, and movies that are about competition, preparation, performance, teamwork, things like that. It’s good to change the message up a little bit but in the end say the same thing,” said Belichick.

“Barbenheimer” has proven to be not a one-weekend phenomenon but an ongoing box-office bonanza. The two movies combined have already surpassed $1 billion in worldwide ticket sales.

Barbie fever has gripped the nation as a seemingly endless wave off pink has descended on theaters, rocketing Greta Gerwig’s third outing as a solo director to a $366,422,042 gross since its release on July 21.

Universal Pictures’ “Oppenheimer,” meanwhile, is performing more like a superhero movie than a three-hour film about scientists talking, totaling $181,420,520 in an IMAX-heavy run.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
