New bill could make driver information digital for towing companies

BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) – Towing companies are excited to hear about the new bill passed through the House of Delegates.

House Bill 5083 would allow towing companies to access driver registration information digitally.

Companies would be able to access the drivers information instantly instead of through the mail.

The bill was proposed by Delegate Eric Brooks, of Raleigh County.

Colby Gray, Operations Manager at Glen’s Towing and Road Service, and Danny Massey, a former employee at Glen’s, told 59News that if the legislation officially passes, paperwork and wait time would be eliminated.

“I’m super excited cause we go through so much paper work and I know it’s gonna be easier on the DMV as well. Cause we’re gonna be able to take a lot of the leg work out for them and be able to keep up with our lot” said Gray.

“I’m elated. You know, three years ago I talked to some delegates while I was still working here and the bill, it didn’t really go nowhere” said Massey to 59News.

If the bill officially passes, towing companies will be able to access this information online through the DMV.
