HBO dark comedy Barry will officially close the curtain with its fourth season.

Co-created by and starring Bill Hader as the eponymous hitman-turned-acting-student, the show returns to small screens across the pond for the final time next month - a decision that was made by Hader himself.

"It's been an amazing journey making this show, and it's bittersweet that the story has come to its natural conclusion," he shared in a statement (via The Wrap).

Meanwhile, HBO Comedy Programming executive vice president Amy Gravitt paid tribute to the series with these words: "After three masterful seasons of Barry, we are eager for viewers to see the powerful, complex and hilarious conclusion to Barry Berkman's story.

"It has been a pleasure working with this immensely talented team including Bill Hader, Alec Berg, Aida Rodgers and the entire exceptional cast and crew."

In the season 4 teaser trailer (above), the imprisoned Barry deals with hallucinations across the yard as a few familiar faces haunt him.

Barry's fate was previously forecasted by Gene Cousineau actor Henry Winkler, who reprises his character in the last run of episodes.

"Four…" he replied when asked how many seasons the show would make it to.

"Because Bill and Alec never try and stretch, I don't mind stretch as in make it better [...] They don't want to push it."

The Happy Days and Scream legend also made sure to mention that he didn't want the drama to fade to black forever as he'd be "an actor back on the street!"

Barry season 4 premieres Sunday, April 16 on HBO in the US, while a UK release date for Sky Atlantic and NOW customers is yet to be announced.
