Bill Shaw fund: Thanks to you, we've already surpassed last year's fundraising

The Salvation Army on Alexander Street uses money from the Bill Shaw Christmas fund to help pay for white flag nights, when it opens its shelter to homeless residents looking to get out of the cold.

We're certainly not done counting yet, but we're very pleased to announce that the Bill Shaw Salvation Army Christmas Fund is now at $146.709.38, surpassing last year's total of more than $126,000.

We appreciate each and every one of you who has contributed to the fund, which helps the Salvation Army of the Sandhills all year long.

One of the programs you have helped to fund is something that is near and dear to the hearts of those in this Army town. The Salvation Army of the Sandhills Pathway of Hope Emergency Shelter houses, among others, homeless veterans.

In the U.S., 40,000 veterans sleep without shelter each night. Since August, the downtown Fayetteville shelter has housed dozens of homeless veterans and helped them to get into transitional housing.
