Bill Shine Resigns as White House Deputy Chief of Staff

Bill Shine resigned Friday from his position as White House deputy chief of staff and communications director after nine months on the job, leaving to join President Trump’s reelection campaign as a senior adviser.

“Serving President Trump and this country has been the most rewarding experience of my entire life,” Shine said in a statement. “To be a small part of all this President has done for the American people has truly been an honor. I’m looking forward to working on President Trump’s reelection campaign and spending more time with my family.”

Shine offered his resignation to Trump Thursday evening, the White House said. In a statement, Trump praised Shine’s “outstanding job” in the administration and said he looks forward to his former communications director being “totally involved” with the 2020 campaign.

Before taking over as communications director from longtime Trump aide Hope Hicks, Shine served as a top Fox News executive. It remains unclear who might replace him in the White House.
