Billie Eilish just got a hair make-under, trading her neon for a soft brunette lob

While Billie Eilish is the queen of bold, edgy hair looks, the 17-year-old pop star (whose hit “Bad Guy” was just named one of Pandora’s most popular songs of the year) switched things up in her newest music video, and fans are all about it.

Opting for a total make-under by ditching her signature neon-dyed roots and jet black hair for a much more subtle brown, the recent AMA winner for New Artist of the Year and Favorite Artist looked almost unrecognizable in the just-released video for her song “Xanny.” Oh, and she went for a long bob, which means the bob haircut has officially taken over.

The classic look, which is subdued in comparison to her past styles, came as a surprise to fans. Then again, Eilish is the kind of girl who loves to do something unexpected.

Eilish recently revealed that a bad dye job left her with an unintentional mullet (which she effortless rocked, BTW), so we don’t know whether this new look was spurred on by her hair health or just her creative vision for the video, which she directed herself.

The soft brown collarbone-length cut is complemented by Eilish’s stripped-down, monochrome outfit of a simple cream-colored turtleneck and jeans. The video also shows her wearing barely-there makeup, glossy skin, and glossy lips, a pared-down look compared to her usual geometric sunglasses.

As a talented teen in the often-sexualizing music space, Eilish has been open about potentially wanting to change her signature style of bright hair, baggy clothing, and fun, colorful prints in the future. And as she approaches 18 later this month, this might be the time.

Or of course, she could be back to her roots (literally) in no time.
