Billie Eilish has praised Barbie director Greta Gerwig after winning a Grammy for her contribution to the movie's soundtrack.

'What Was I Made For?' earned Eilish and her songwriter brother Finneas O'Connell the Song of the Year prize at the Grammy Awards, which were held on Sunday night (February 4).

Speaking on stage following their big win, Eilish gave a shoutout to Gerwig for "making the best movie of the year," whilst also celebrating fellow nominees Taylor Swift, Lana del Rey, Dua Lipa and SZA, among others.

"I just want to say, everybody in this category – like that was a crazy list of incredible people! Incredible artists. Crazy right now," she said.

"We're so lucky – we just continue to be just deeply, deeply privileged, lucky people," O'Connell added. "It's hard to feel deserving ever but we certainly don't right now. We feel very humble, very grateful."

Revealing how 'What Was I Made For?' (which is also nominated at the Oscars) came about, Eilish revealed she and O'Connell were in a creative rut before Gerwig reached out.

"We had been working three days a week and not coming up with stuff, and even if we were coming up with stuff it just didn't feel right, didn't feel good, didn't feel real," the singer said backstage (via The Hollywood Reporter).

"And I got really worried, I got nervous, I felt like it was going to be over a little bit. I was in a real dark place, really, really dark place, it's kind of hard to think back to it."

About the award-winning ballad for Barbie, Eilish said: "We wrote it under two hours, if not one hour, and honestly from then on we were just creative again.

"I don't know, it just woke us up and got us on our thing and it was really special and powerful and I hold it deep and dear to my heart and my chest."

Barbie is available to buy or rent in the UK from Prime Video, iTunes, Microsoft Store and more, as well as being available to watch on Max in the US.
