Billie Lourd Sang "American Girl" in the Bathtub for Her Late Mother Carrie Fisher's Birthday

Billie Lourd is no stranger to a touching tribute. Weeks after paying homage to her late grandmother Debbie Reynolds by announcing a guest role on Will & Grace, Billie is remembering her late mother Carrie Fisher with a song once again (she previously shared a musical tribute last December at the piano).

To commemorate Fisher’s birthday, on October 21, Billie posted a beautiful tribute for Carrie. This time, in the form of Tom Petty’s “American Girl.” The Booksmart actor posted the moving cover on her Instagram account alongside a heartfelt short letter explaining its significance.

“Today would have been my Momby’s 63rd birthday. Not that I’m some kind of grief expert by any means, but on milestones (or whatever you want to call them) like this, I like to celebrate her by doing things that she loved to do. So here’s a little video of me singing one of her favorite songs (American Girl by Tom Petty) in one of her favorite places (her bathtub of course). I’ll probably have a pint of vanilla Haggen Dazs and a Coca Cola for dinner,” the American Horror Story star wrote alongside the short clip.

Since Fisher’s passing in 2016 at age 60, Billie has paid homage to her late mother multiple times, and not only in song form. To celebrate Fisher’s birthday in 2017, Billie got a tattoo to match one her mother had. That same year, she also rocked a Princess Leia–inspired hairstyle to the The Last Jedi’s premiere.
