Bills snap counts: Depth chart breakdown vs. Ravens

The Buffalo Bills defense had a top-notch effort against the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Divisional round. The Bills went on and won 17-3, shutting down the Ravens offense for most of the game.

On the flip side, the usually thrilling Bills offense didn’t show up. But they got more points than the other team did and that’s all that matters, right?

In terms of which players made the biggest impact on such a tight contest, snap counts will tell us that story. Here’s a full depth chart breakdown of snaps played for the Bills against the Ravens:

Offense snap counts

  • The near-100 percent club was business as usual. QB Josh Allen and just about every offensive lineman that started.

  • In Buffalo's first game without RB Zack Moss, RB Devin Singletary took just about the entire load, playing 84 percent of snaps. RB TJ Yeldon played in eight total and Antonio Williams was a healthy scratch.

  • Excluding the season-finale when he was rested for half the game, WR Stefon Diggs interestingly played in his second-lowest snap count total of the year, 82 percent. John Brown was right behind him at 81 while the Bills had three WR sets on around 63 percent of their plays per Cole Beasley's snaps.

  • TE Lee Smith saw his playoff decrease in snaps continue, playing in 10 total snaps after only seeing five last week. TE Dawson Knox paced the position with 79 percent of snaps played. That was Knox's second-most snaps played in a game this season as well.

  • TE Tyler Kroft was a healthy scratch again.

  • The Bills offense was out-snapped by a large margin again, 57 snaps to 78.

Defense snap counts

  • Status quo for the 100 percent crew via the entire secondary and LBs. The rotation at the No. 2 CB spot was split again, though. Levi Wallace & Josh Norman played an even 50/50 number.

  • LB AJ Klein played in 41 percent of snaps. It appears he and CB Taron Johnson were in and out for each other, as the nickel played in 59 percent of snaps.

  • A usual rotation at DE as Jerry Hughes paced the group at 62 percent while Mario Addison trailed at 53 percent. Addison did play in 76 percent last week, though. Trent Murphy (33%) and AJ Epenesa (37%) rounded out the crew.

  • The DT position had a huge rotation. Ed Oliver led at 51 percent and playing in his most snaps since being a healthy scratch (ignoring the finale) was Harrison Phillips. He played in a big 49 percent. The unit rounded out with Quinton Jefferson (46%), Justin Zimmer (36%) and Vernon Butler (33%). That was Butler's lowest mark of the season.

Special teams snaps

  • LB Tyler Matakevitch and DE Darryl Johnson tied for the most special teams snaps at 77 percent last week but Matakevitch was alone on top this week at 79 percent. Johnson did not play.

  • TE Reggie Gilliam, CB Siran Neal, RB Taiwan Jones, S Jaquan Johnson, LB Andre Smith, S Dean Marlowe were all at 67 percent. Marlowe was not among this second-tier grouping last week.
