Billy Crystal Remembers Robin Williams at the Emmys

Billy Crystal paid tribute to Robin Williams in a touching monologue at the Emmys, filled with his favorite memories of the late actor and comedian.

"He made us laugh hard," he said. "Every time we saw him in night clubs, in arenas, in hospitals, for troops overseas, even in a dying girl's living room for her last wish... I used to think if I could just put a saddle on him and stay on for eight seconds, I was going to do okay."

Crystal spoke candidly to the audience, telling anecdotes, jokes, and vivid memories of his friend. The duo had worked together on many projects throughout the years—they co-hosted Comic Relief and co-starred in the 1997 comedy Father's Day.

"As genius as he was on stage, he was the greatest friend you could imagine," he said. "Supportive, protective, loving. It's hard to talk about him in the past, because he was so present in all of our lives."

"For almost 40 years, he was the brightest star in the comedy galaxy," Crystal said, before a video played highlights of Williams' stand-up work. "You'll think to yourselves: 'Robin Williams, what a concept.'"
