Billy Porter Gives the Yeehaw Trend a Surrealist Twist at the Emmys
Christian Allaire
Billy Porter is no stranger to an over-the-top red carpet moment. The Pose star approaches the step and repeat with a fun, fearless attitude, as seen in the the Christian Siriano gown—not a tux!—he recently wore to the Oscars and his “Egyptian Sun God” look by The Blonds for this year’s Met Gala. For the 2019 Emmys in Los Angeles tonight, Porter shook things up yet again, this time delivering a surrealist take on the biggest fashion trend of the moment: yeehaw style.
Porter began the outfit with a western-inspired cowboy hat—but this was not any ol’ cowboy hat. His was by the famous milliner Stephen Jones, rimmed with crystals and fitted with an asymmetrical brim, where one side was exaggerated to dramatic heights. He dressed up the daring accessory with a crystal-striped double-breasted evening suit by Michael Kors Collection with wide-leg trousers. The finishing touches were a black blouse with a long tie at the front and platform shoes for added height. Yet another major moment from the king of flamboyance.
