Billy Porter Wants You to Show Off Your Runway Walk
Last month, Pose star Billy Porter called on his fans on Instagram to partake in a virtual fashion challenge. The task at hand? Recreating his 2019 Met Gala red carpet look designed by The Blonds, which included a golden bejewelled catsuit with 10-foot wings. People were quick to partake in the challenge, showing off their best DIY’d creations using the hashtag #billyporterfashionchallenge. This showmanship of creativity fulfilled Porter’s mission to bring joy and fun to the Instagram feed, and now the star is back at it again with a brand new competition that will bring an even bigger smile to your face.
For round two, Porter tasked fans with walking the runway—well, the hallway, from inside their homes—in their most fabulous outfits. “Get off the couch and shoot a video of yourself giving me your fiercest runway walk in your chicest couch potato / #StayAtHome lewk,” Porter wrote. Dubbed “couch potato realness” the challenge even encouraged participants to storm their home catwalks, “wild hair and all,” he wrote. Porter will be picking his favorite entries this week and re-sharing them on his own Instagram page.
The results are already fabulous. User @dvfisch_, for instance, chose to execute “wine time realness,” walking down a hallway wearing a DIY’d ballgown and carrying a bottle of wine (followed up with a moment dubbed “movie night eleganza extravaganza,” including yet another dress, with a bag of chips as a clutch). Meanwhile, another user, @themilffiles, sashayed their way into the challenge set to a RuPaul song, wearing a floral sarong and exposed bra. @pedros_pedros pulled off a dress-to-skirt reveal that was also worthy of a RuPaul’s Drag Race costume challenge as well.
