This Binghamton hospital is being sold: Here's which practices are affected, timeline

One of Binghamton's largest medical providers will change hands by early next year, joining one of the nation's longest established group clinics.

An agreement transferring ownership of Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Hospital, its locations and related physician practices from Ascension to the Pennsylvania-based Guthrie Clinic was announced Thursday. With the agreement, Lourdes will join a network of 700 providers in over 50 specialties and subspecialties.

Guthrie currently operates five other hospitals in Pennsylvania and New York.

“Lourdes has been committed to our Mission of serving all persons, with special attention to those who are most vulnerable, a commitment we have acted upon in Binghamton since 1925. As a regional provider, Guthrie is well positioned to carry on this legacy, serving the community through an integrated care delivery system,” said Kathy Connerton, president and CEO of Lourdes. “This transition will ensure that the Binghamton community has sustainable, quality health care access long into the future."

Kathy Connerton, Lourdes president and CEO, and Dr. Edmund Sabanegh Jr., president and CEO of Guthrie, meet with Lourdes employees inside Lourdes Hospital after announcing Guthrie's acquisition of Lourdes Thursday, June 8, 2023.

"When the Daughters [of Charity] came here almost 100 years ago, their sole purpose was to care for those in this community who needed it most," Connerton said Thursday. "And they answered the call of what the community needed. And today, we're being called again to answer the call and take it to a new piece of our journey."

The Daughters of Charity left Lourdes in 2017, 92 years after founding the hospital in 1925.
