‘Bingo - The Winning Musical’ highlights these 12 events happening in Brunswick this week

‘Bingo - The Winning Musical’

Who thought that a game of bingo could produce such hilarity and excitement?

Brunswick Little Theatre presents “Bingo - The Winning Musical,” directed by Debbie Skillman. The fun new musical comedy has laughs and heart a-plenty. Musical numbers run the gamut from pop ballad, to gospel, to country to a torch song. The fun begins as bingo diehards and best friends forever Vern, Honey and Patsy brave the worst storm in Hamerin County history to attend the yearly celebration of the birth of bingo and to honor its founder Edwin S. Lowe.

To provide the perfect atmosphere, all performances will take place in an actual bingo hall at the Oak Island Moose Lodge, 4239 Long Beach Road, Southport. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 4-6, Aug. 11-13 and at 3 p.m. Aug. 7 and Aug. 14. Calabash Summer Concert Series

The Entertainers will play beach, R&B, rock, country, Top 40 music, 6-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2 at Calabash Town Park, 868 Persimmon Road. Hot dogs, kettle corns and treats available. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair. Free. 910-579-6747.

Sunset Beach Sound Waves concert series

Too Much Sylvia plays beach, funky '70s Motown, retro '80s music, 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3 at the Village Park gazebo, 1791 Queen Anne St. Free.

Ocean Isle Beach Movie in the Park

Come and enjoy movies under the sky with friends and family this summer as Ocean Isle Beach host Movies in the Park. “Coco.” Despite his family's generations-old ban on music, young Miguel dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol Ernesto de la Cruz.

Charlene & the Charlatans plays bluegrass, 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4 at Franklin Square Park, 130 E. West St., downtown Southport. Free. Bring a blanket or chair.

Oak Island Concert Series

Uptown Easy, a 7-piece dance, party band, will play 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5 at Middleton Park Amphitheater, 4610 E. Dolphin Drive. Free.

Ocean Isle Beach Summer Concert

Also known as the Peggy Hughes Concert series, The Main Event Band plays R&B, soul, beach, country, funk music, 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5 at Town Center Park, 11 E. Second St. Free.

Franklin Square Gallery’s First Friday Gallery Walk on August 5 celebrates the opening of the newest Members Show and the newest Mug Challenge, and also will feature live demos from four local artists. Boating safety course

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will provide a special one-day boating course that satisfies all state boating education requirements.

Any person born on or after Jan. 1, 1988, must complete an approved boating safety course before operating a vessel with a motor of 10 horsepower or greater on North Carolina waters.

Taught by certified USCG Auxiliary instructors, the USCG Boating America course applies to all recreational watercraft including powerboats, PWCs, sailboats and paddle craft.

The course covers general information about boats and maintenance, preparing for safe and enjoyable outings, navigation rules and aids to navigation, guidelines for operating your boat or PWC safely, what to do in case of boating emergencies, and state-specific laws and regulations you must follow.

The course will be held 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6 at the Ocean Events Center, 801 Ocean Drive, Oak Island. Course fee is $35 per person or $30 for two or more attendees. Cash or check accepted at the door, sorry no credit cards accepted. Register by email to: CGAuxSafeBoating@ec.rr.com.
