New research suggests that biochar could be a major agricultural tool to fight climate change. ​​Biochar is created when biomass is heated at high temperatures with no oxygen. The organic waste is turned into a solid residue of carbon, otherwise known as biochar.​​But experts in the field say in order to make a significant difference, more facilities need to be opened.
