Birkdale Village adds 5 stores, including one making its debut in the Charlotte area

A handful of apparel stores plan to open at the mixed-used Birkdale Village development in Huntersville, north of Charlotte.

The five national and regional chains include Anthropologie and Lilly Pulitzer. One store —Southern Tide — is new to the Charlotte market.

The stores are among 17 openings expected this year by North American Properties and Nuveen Real Estate, NAP said Thursday. The redevelopment also includes business expansions, relocations and remodels, NAP said.

The goal of the redevelopment project is to balance shopping and dining options, “a sweet spot we’re very close to hitting,” said Adam Schwegman, partner and executive vice president of leasing at NAP.

“We currently have so much demand from prospective retailers and restaurants that we’re nearly out of space,” he said.

The 250,000-square-foot retail center also has an outdoor stage, greenspace and retail kiosks that were part of a $20 million renovation turning Birkdale Village into an outdoor entertainment destination.
