BIRTHDAY OF THE DAY: Karen Knutson, VP of global government affairs at Chevron

How/where are you celebrating your birthday and with whom? “I am celebrating at home with my family. My children are making the cake, I am doing a puzzle and my son and husband are playing a duet for me. (I feel like I am living in the 1800s -- which sounds pretty good.)”

How did you get your start in your career? “I started on the Hill working for Frank Murkowski as an intern in 1985. He is still one of my very favorite people anywhere.”

What’s an interesting book/article you’re reading now or you’ve recently finished? And why? “I am reading Churchill’s biography. Political biographies are my favorite genre.”

What’s a trend going on in the U.S. or abroad that doesn’t get enough attention? “Opera from balconies. We need more of it.”

How’s the Trump presidency going? “The economy was on fire until COVID-19. We will all look back and reflect on how we act during this crisis -- not just the president. I am confident we will rise to the challenge.”

What’s a fun fact that people in Washington might not know about you? “I am getting a new puppy today!”
