BIRTHDAY OF THE DAY: Rebecca Schieber, political director at Targeted Victory

How/where are you celebrating your birthday and with whom? “I’m out in California for the final days of the election working to get Young Kim and Michelle Steel elected. Apparently, I chose a career that makes my birthday a rather busy day …”

How did you get your start in your career? “I started my career as Carly Fiorina’s body woman for her 2016 campaign. It was easily the best introduction to politics a person could ask for and incredible to work for someone as wonderful as Carly. While not scientific, I have basically been to every Panera in Iowa and New Hampshire.”

What’s an interesting book/article you’re reading during coronavirus social distancing? And why? “I just started reading ‘How Baseball Happened.’ Reading about sports is much more fun than politics, plus it helps me prep for the White Sox 2021 World Series win.”

What’s a trend going on in the U.S. or abroad that doesn’t get enough attention? “I think we have only scratched the surface of the effects of the extreme partisanship in politics, no matter what happens Tuesday. It affects our lives in every way -- Congress can’t pass a critical relief bill during a national pandemic; families have to create strategic plans to make it through Thanksgiving. All you need to see is the mass exodus of moderates and dealmakers from Congress. There is a media environment where the loudest voices are amplified, not necessarily the ones with the right answers.”

How’s the Trump presidency going? “Seems like we will find out in a few days!”

What’s a fun fact that people in Washington might not know about you? “Pre-Covid, I earned (gave myself) the prestigious position of QB3 on my flag football team. Record is 2-1 in starts and I’m just waiting for the Football Team to call at this point.”
