Biscuit Belly has hit a road stop in its expansion plans and is closing one of its Louisville locations.

The chicken-and-biscuits restaurant at Colonial Gardens, 818 W. Kenwood Dr. announced the closure on Facebook on Thursday. It originally opened at the site in 2020.

"We had high hopes for this location and the redevelopment of the property," the post read. "Unfortunately, like many other retail and restaurant operations that have closed this year, this store has struggled with lingering effects of the pandemic, dramatic increases in food and cost of goods, higher utilities and the ongoing labor shortage. Thank you to our team members for working diligently to try and make this location successful and to our loyal customers for welcoming us into the community."

Biscuit Belly has two other Louisville locations in NuLu and St. Matthews , a drive-thru location in Evansville, Indiana and a location in Lexington, Kentucky. Another Louisville location is in the works in Middletown.

A franchise agreement signed last spring means nearly a dozen more Biscuit Belly locations are on the way. Two more Biscuit Belly stores are planned for Lexington and three in Knoxville, all from the same operators, Jay and Kelly Shoffner.

Biscuit Belly serves breakfast and brunch seven days a week with a full menu of chicken-and-biscuit sandwiches, cocktails and other Southern breakfast fare. Biscuit Belly is open Monday to Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Friday to Sunday 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
