Bishop Verot names former Las Vegas Aces trainer Alissa Schenk to lead girls basketball program
Alissa Schenk has been surrounded by competitiveness at the highest levels on the hardwood.
She hopes to use her experience as a trainer in the TCU women's basketball program as well as the Las Vegas Aces organization in the WNBA to bring success to the Bishop Verot girls basketball team. Schenk was named the head coach of the Vikings' program earlier this week.
Formerly a trainer at the school, Schenk becomes Verot's fifth head coach in the past five years, looking to revitalize a program that has gone 25-51 over the previous three seasons after going 23-3 in 2018-19.
“First and foremost, I’m excited for this opportunity," Schenk said. "I’ve been around basketball for a long time, and it runs through my veins. Just to be the leader for these girls is something I’m excited for. Working in a professional and a college setting helped me get to this point.”

Bishop Verot athletic director Greg Coleman made his first hire leading the Vikings' athletic department, and it's only fitting the hire came on the basketball court — where he racked up over 200 wins at Ida Baker, Island Coast, and Lehigh.
“With her extensive background as far as being an all-state player in high school, and working with the TCU basketball program and the Las Vegas Aces, we’ve got someone here on campus who can work with our team year-round, and get this program back to where it needs to be," Coleman said.
In high school, Schenk was a four-year letterman at Mater Dei High School in Evansville, Ind and was a First Team All-Conference selection as a senior, before graduating from Purdue in 2014.
“Working at Verot was my first job out of grad school," Schenk added. "I loved the community, the atmosphere and the people that work here. I was very young and wanted to learn from more people and get different perspectives and come back to Verot.
“Being from Indiana, we used to vacation down here all the time. It’s a great place to be, and I get to get my feet wet (as a head coach) for the first time.”
