BISSELL vacuums recalled nationwide due to fire hazard

The battery packs on the vacuum could cause a fire hazard because of smoke and overheating, and BISSELL received 17 reports of smoke and burning smells coming from the vacuum. Of the 17 reports, six included battery packs that caught fire, and three caused minor property damage while the other three caused minor burns.

“Multi reach” can be found on the hand vacuum part of the products, and the model numbers are printed on the product label behind the dirt tank. The vacuums were reportedly sold between August 2016 and December 2022 for between $110 and $270.

Lithium-ion batteries that are recalled will need to be gotten rid of according to local and state rules, and procedures from municipal recycling centers for recalled, defective, or damaged batteries. This is because defective, damaged, or recalled batteries need to be handled differently compared to other batteries.

The recalled batteries should not be thrown in the trash, or put in battery recycling boxes at home improvement or retail stores.

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends that anyone who has one of the recalled vacuums to stop using it and contact BISSELL for information on what to do next.
