🌱 Bixby Knolls Crunch Fitness Plea + Ride LBT FREE After 5 PM

Good day, people of Long Beach! It's me again, Sylvia, your host of the Long Beach Daily.

Crunch Fitness is dealing with its three citations for staying open during lockdowns. Also, if you party, you can ride the LB Transit free after 5 PM Thursday. Finally, don’t set off fireworks!

First, today's weather:

Cool with clouds and sun. High: 59 Low: 45.

Here are the top five stories today in Long Beach:

  1. Being cited three times for staying open during COVID-19 lock-down orders comes with a price tag. For the Crunch Fitness in Bixby Knolls, we learned Wednesday that it means a guilty plea, a reimbursement of $1,117.95 to the City, and a donation of $5,000 in memberships and $4,000 in equipment to the LBUSD. The gym says it complied “as soon as the problem came up the corporate ladder.” (Urban Fitness)

  2. On Friday, LB Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule and, starting at 5 PM, it will allow riders to use the service for FREE. It’s important to note that the LBT plans service changes and stops removals in February. Affected routes are the 1, 2, 20, 41, 51, 71, 90, 171, and 190. To see what will change, and to provide input, visit the LBT online. (Ride LBT, 2)

  3. The City reminded residents Thursday that fireworks are illegal. Even though there are always some who bring in the new year with furtively lit rockets, this activity can result in fines of up to $20,000. In addition, the City urges neighbors who observe this activity happening to report illegal fireworks. (@LongBeachCity)

  4. The Downtown LB Alliance is looking for new ways to bring business to the area. An initiative unveiled Thursday focuses on “One Downtown.” Rather than focusing economic recovery efforts on some pockets within the community, it’s now looking for ways to get merchants in the entire 150-block area involved. There are several programs tied to the initiative, such as the “One Kind Act,” which seeks to build “awareness of those who make a difference in the community.” (LB Business Journal)

  5. There’s good news and bad news. The good news is that Long Beach will get its own location of Chocolate Bash, a dessert shop. If you’ve been traveling to Newport Beach or Los Angeles, you know that’s great news. The bad news is that we don’t have an address yet, other than Wednesday’s commitment to build the location in the city. (Restaurant News)
