Black buildup. Unsanitized dishes. Myrtle Beach area restaurants with the worst inspections

From pink slime to a torn screen door, South Carolina health inspectors found numerous violations at Myrtle Beach-area restaurants this week.

The state releases grades and inspection reports for food establishments across Horry and Georgetown counties.

Here are the restaurants that received some of the lowest ratings this week.

La Olanchana

  • Location: 4245 Socastee Blvd., Myrtle Beach

  • Grade: C, 76% for a routine inspection on Oct. 19

An inspector found frozen meat defrosting in a dishwashing sink with dirty silverware and soap. Black buildup was observed on the walls and ceiling of the prep kitchen and employees didn’t sanitize dishes after washing them. The required follow-up inspection has not yet been held. Sunhouse Petroleum #9 (listed as Sun Mart on Google Maps)

  • Location: 102 George Bishop Parkway, Myrtle Beach

  • Grade: B, 78% for a routine inspection on Oct. 20

An inspector discovered “pink slime build up” and mildew inside the ice machine. The cooler did not keep food cold enough and a freezer shelf was propped up with a piece of wood. The testing strips for dishwashing solutions expired in 2017. The required follow-up inspection has not yet been held. Read the business’s full report.

The Old Bull and Bush

  • Location: 4700 Highway 17 Bypass, Myrtle Beach

  • Grade: B, 81% for a routine inspection on Oct. 16

A dicer had food debris on it and was stored with clean dishes, the inspector saw. Black buildup was found inside of the ice machine. A shepherd’s pie mix made 10 days before was still sitting in the refrigerator. The required follow-up inspection was held on Oct. 25 and the restaurant got an A grade. Pawleys Island Tavern

  • Location: 10635 Ocean Highway, Pawleys Island

  • Grade: B, 83% for a routine inspection on Oct. 18

The inspector found juice bottles stored in ice intended for consumption. The restaurant’s screen door was torn and had gaps around it. Employees stored their coats on the same racks as food. The required follow-up inspection has not yet been held. Read Pawleys Island Tavern’s full report.
