This black cat has waited 500 days in a Bergen shelter. Viral video may help her find home

Aria the cat is up for adoption at the Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge in Oakland.

For any prospective pet owners, a black cat who has been long-overlooked is available for adoption in North Jersey.

Aria the cat has been at the Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge in Oakland for over a year and has watched many of her fellow rescue cats get adopted. A total of 350 cats have been adopted from the shelter since Aria first arrived.

"She's a really sweet girl," adoption counselor Stephanie Etherton said. "She's really spunky so she loves playing and jumping in the air at toys. She has a little feisty side, too, but for the most part she's sweet. You just have to get to know her signals, really."

Etherton says she's unsure why Aria has been overlooked but said she is a great cat. Aria was rescued as a stray kitten in Paterson. She arrived in October 2021.

Aria would likely be suited best in a home where she is the only cat, without young children since she requires attention.

Etherton fostered Aria for a while and said she really flourished there.

Recently a cat named Bruno with a similar personality found a home after he was all over the news for being "too affectionate."

So it's possible Aria could become New Jersey's next famous cat. The shelter's Instagram post showcasing her has already gotten some traction with over 58,000 likes on Instagram.

"She's been with us for a long time now," Etherton said. "We're just trying to help her out."

Anyone interested should send an email to catkennel@rbari.org or submit an application online at rbari.org.
