For some Southwest Florida tattoo shops, they are hoping to test their Friday the 13th luck by offering special deals on flash tattoos to celebrate the spooky occasion.

Several parlors and artists often have a pre-made list of flash tattoos to choose from or offer special designs for just $31 but rules vary from shop to shop. Regardless of the deals, the holiday always draws in a large crowd, from inked aficionados to those wanting a memorable first tattoo.

What is the origins of Friday the 13th for tattoo shops?

So how did a day that superstitious people dread become one that tattoo lovers long for?

According to reports, the tradition started in Dallas, Texas, in 1995 when tattoo artist and former “Ink Master” judge Oliver Peck threw a 24-hour Friday the 13th tattoo event at the now-defunct Pair O' Dice. He was inspired by tattoo artist Dave Lum's Halloween specials and wanted to offer cheaper flash tattoos to mark the occasion.

“I definitely wasn’t the first person to do it, the number 13 tattoo on the Friday the 13th,” Peck said to Vice. “But, I definitely made it an event.”

Between the unique, spooky designs and the cheap prices, the event caught on and now is celebrated by tattoo artists across the country. Here's where to score your own spooky ink this Friday in Southwest Florida.

Where to find Friday the 13th tattoos in Fort Myers

Bloodlinez Ink

Located at 3857 Broadway St., they will offer tattoos for $13 and $31 for cash only. They will also have piercers available for similar pricing. They will have flash to choose from or they will honor new ideas.

Needful Things, INC.

Located on 2265 Main St., Needful Things INC has released the first of their deals. They will be offering specific designs for $130 or $175, with some designs allowing for colors if desires. They are only allowed on arms or legs.

Rockstar Harley-Davidson

Located at 9501 Thunder Road, they will offer $13 tattoos with $7 tips. It will be a first come, first serve basis. Doors will open at 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.

Saito Ink Tattoo Studio

Located at 4650 S. Cleveland Ave. 9B, they have released 3x3 flash designs for $31 with a $9 tip. They will not allow any neck or rib placements.

Sinful Passions Tattoos

Located at 3900 Broadway St., they will host a block party and offer flash tattoos starting at $31. They will also have piercers available and professionals for tooth gems. For minors looking to get tattooed, they will a notary on site. Otherwise, identification is needed.

Doors will open at 11 a.m. and the party will run until 4 a.m. They will have food trucks, giveaways and music along with the tattoos.

Str8line Tat2 and Body Piercings

Located at 13971 N. Cleveland Ave. in North Fort Myers, they will offer $31 tattoos with $9 tip for cash only. They will provide flash during the event, not allowing tattoos on hands, face and neck. Tattoos will be in black and grey, with color being an additional $20.

They will begin at 11 a.m. and go until 7 p.m., they will only accept walk ins.

Tattoo Alchemy

Located at 13240 North Cleveland Ave., they will host an event and will release 3x3 flash designs for $31. They also will have $21 basic piercings and $31 dermal piercings.

Doors will open at noon and go until 2 a.m.

Vervain Tattoo & Apothecary

Located at 13550 Reflections Parkway Suite 501, they will offer $31 tattoo with specific flash designs for patrons to choose from. Along with tattoos, they will feature music, games, snacks, a free tattoo giveaway, horror movie marathon, and additional spooky festivities.

Doors will open at noon and they will not offer any appointments, so expect wait times to reach two hours. There will be no modifications for the tattoos. Patrons must be over 18 years old and must bring ID to get a tattoo.

Unrivaled Ink

Located at 909 SE. 47th Terrace unit 103, they will be offering flash tattoos for $13, $31 and $62.

Waikiki INK

Located on 1031 Santa Barbara Blvd., Waikiki INK will have $25 flash tattoos to choose from and $31 "bring your own" tattoo as long as they are half dollar size (1.2 inches). Along with the tattoos, they will have $13 piercings excluding jewelry.

They will offer sessions on a first come, first served basis. Doors will open at noon and will run until the volume is reached.

Jewels Inkpire

Located at 207 Airport-Pulling Road, the event will run from noon to 7 p.m. and will offer $31 tattoos with $9 tips for cash only. They will only allow tattoos on arms and legs, with no modifications allowed.

Walk-ins only, first come first served. Identification is required, especially for minors looking to get pierced or tattooed.

Located at 3815 Tamiami Trail Unit B, they will offer flash tattoos for cash only. While they have yet to release prices or designs, they have stated that doors will open at 10 a.m. and will be on a first come, first served basis.
