A black glove covered a camera in Tiger Point polling site. Conspiracy theory debunked.

A black glove found mysteriously placed over a camera at a polling place in Tiger Point during the general election Tuesday has created a stir, but election officials assure voters it was a legitimate action.

A voter expressed concern about the glove-covered camera to the Santa Rosa County Supervisor of Elections Office and a Tweet sent to U.S. Rep Matt Gaetz, Gov. Ron DeSantis and local government officials quickly picked up steam.

"What's with the glove covering the camara (sic) at the Tiger Point polling place?" the message accompanying photos of the glove, above the doorway of the inside of a polling location, said.

Supervisor of Elections Tappie Villane quickly debunked any conspiracy theories.

State law requires that no cameras be allowed inside of polling places, Villane said, so her office requested that the county's Building Maintenance Department send someone to the Tiger Point Community Center to cover any security cameras they found inside the part of the building used for voting.

"We asked the county to cover them and that, (the glove), I guess, was how they covered them," she said.

The state law cited by Villane is 102.031(5). "No photography is permitted in the polling room or early voting area, except an elector may photograph his or her own ballot," it says.

But why the black glove?

"That's just what they had available to cover the camera with," Santa Rosa spokeswoman Sarah Whitfield said following consultation with building maintenance staff.

The Tiger Point Community Center is the only Santa Rosa County-owned polling place where security cameras are located.
