Black Jacket Symphony to present Fleetwood Mac's 'Rumours' at Sand Mountain Amphitheater

Tickets go on sale this week for Black Jacket Symphony’s performance of Fleetwood Mac’s 1977 album “Rumours” on Sept. 2 at the Sand Mountain Park and Amphitheater in Albertville.

The Birmingham-based musical group specializes in recreating rock music’s most legendary albums in live concert settings. “Rumours” certainly merits that description, having sold 40 million copies worldwide and reached platinum status (a million sales) 20 times over in the U.S. alone.

It spent 31 weeks atop the Billboard album charts in its initial release and has made multiple repeat appearances over the years, including last year driven by a TikTok video of a skateboarder swilling juice with “Dreams” from the album as the soundtrack, and this year where according to a story two weeks ago in Forbes magazine ranks No. 9 in album sales this year.

“Rumours” won the 1977 Grammy Award for Album of the Year and a couple of decades later was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame; was designated as "culturally, historically, or artistically significant" by the Library of Congress; and was chosen for preservation by the National Recording Registry.

It was famously recorded amid the breakup of two couples in Fleetwood Mac (singer Stevie Nicks and guitarist Lindsey Buckingham; bassist John McVie and keyboard player Christine McVie), and fueled by massive quantities of drugs (the stories related by the participants are as legendary as the album).

What resulted was an album full of emotionally wrought songs that remain staples of classic rock radio today; aside from “Dreams,” they include “The Chain,” “Go Your Own Way,” “Gold Dust Woman” and “Don’t Stop.”

Black Jacket Symphony will be playing all the album tracks, according to a news release from the amphitheater, plus an assortment of other Fleetwood Mac songs.

There is no set lineup for the group; the members revolve depending on what album is being performed. The goal is a perfect reproduction of the album, paired with a memorable visual show.

Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” “White Album” and “Abbey Road”; the Eagles’ “Hotel California”; Guns N’ Roses’ “Appetite for Destruction”; Journey’s “Escape”; Led Zeppelin’s “II,” “IV” and “Houses of the Holy”; Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Second Helping”’; Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”; Nirvana’s “Nevermind”; Pearl Jam’s “Ten”; Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon, “Wish You Were here and “The Wall”; Prince’s “Purple Rain”; Queen’s “A Night at the Opera”; the Rolling Stones’ “Sticky Fingers” and “Let it Bleed”; and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ “Damn the Torpedoes.
