The Black Label to produce new girl group from Mnet competition series

South Korean television channel Mnet has announced a collaboration between its upcoming reality competition series “I-LAND 2” and YG Entertainment subsidiary The Black Label.

Key details: A teaser released on Monday revealed that the show's second season will be spearheaded by The Black Label's producer Teddy Park, known for his work with artists such as Jeon Somi, Taeyang and BLACKPINK.

The series aims to create "the biggest K-pop girl group of 2024." Once the season concludes, the selected members will make their debut sometime next year under the entertainment company WAKEONE, known for artists such as girl group Kep1er, boy group ZEROBASEONE and soloist Jo Yuri.

Aspiring contestants can audition through the show's official website, with applications closing on Aug. 6. Eligibility is open to all girls born before Jan. 1, 2011.

Past and future groups: The first season of “I-LAND,” which aired in 2020, led to the formation of the boy band ENHYPEN through a collaboration between Mnet and HYBE Labels.

This forthcoming season of “I-LAND” enters a slew of new girl groups on the horizon via reality competition series. HYBE is currently occupied with its own search through its idol competition program “R U Next?,” which aims to create a new six-member girl group under the HYBE subsidiary label Belift Lab.

Earlier this month, JYP Entertainment launched their series “A2K” in collaboration with Republic Records, with the goal of constructing the first American girl group trained under the K-pop system.

Aside from The Black Label’s involvement with “I-LAND” Season 2, YG Entertainment will officially debut their new girl group BABYMONSTER in September.
