STRATFORD, CT — A Black Lives Matter march is scheduled for Saturday in Stratford. The event will begin noon at Paradise Green, with the march starting an hour later and ending at Stratford Town Hall, according to a post from Patch user Cassandra Charles and a flyer circulating on social media.

"This will be a peaceful protest. If you are coming to loot, destroy property, or spread hate please stay home because this is not that type of event," Charles said in the post.

The march comes after weeks of protests — including at least one in Stratford, which drew hundreds — following the death of Minnesota man George Floyd in police custody. Fired Minneapolis officer Derek Chauvin, seen in a viral video with his knee on Floyd's neck, is charged with second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. Three other former officers are also charged in connection with the death.

Demonstrators are asked to practice social distancing and wear a face mask as a precaution to prevent transmission of the coronavirus, according to Charles. Protesters should also wear black.
