Scarlett Johansson has responded to rumours that Black Widow is coming back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Reports have been circulating recently that there are plans within Disney and Marvel Studios to bring back some of the original Avengers cast, such as Johansson and Robert Downey Jr.

In an interview with The Today Show, Johansson was asked if she was planning to come back. While she didn't completely deny that it would ever happen, she pointed out that her character's death makes it unlikely.

"I don't know how that [would work], would that be like a zombie film?" she said. "I mean I think it might be, I think [Endgame] was the end, right? I don't know how you come back from that.

"I would have to... it would be a miracle. It would be a real Marvel miracle. It would be a real marvel. But you know, who knows?"

Of course, characters in Marvel comics have been known to die and come back to life, so it could work in that sense. But then it could undermine the tragedy of not only Black Widow's death, but any other time a major hero dies.

Johansson herself recently said that she felt "really good about her story coming to a close" adding "I think she has a lot of dignity in her legacy."

Back in 2021, there was some drama between Johansson and Disney, as the actress took legal action against the House of Mouse over the simultaneous cinema and Disney+ release of the Black Widow solo movie, as her pay was tied to box office.

After the settlement, Johansson has continued to work with Disney however, developing a theme park ride movie adaptation for Tower of Terror, which is still currently under development following the end of the writers and actors strikes in recent months.

Johansson shared an update on that project during her Today segment: "Now that the writers' strike is all over with, we're finally able to dive back into polishing up this script. It's a massive, huge undertaking."
