A Black Woman With Autism Opens A Salon Near Atlanta, Making History
We love to see Black entrepreneurial spirit in action! According to Black Enterprise, Aaliyah Alicia Thompson “has made history by being the first woman with autism in the country to open her very own beauty bar.”
The salon is located in Clayton Country, about 15 miles from Atlanta. Clients can go for hair and nail services, and walk-ins are welcome.
Aaliyah was diagnosed with autism when she was five, but was determined to realize her dreams. She graduated high school with honors and found her calling in the beauty industry.
She attended Touched by An Angel Beauty School and Salon in Jonesboro, Georgia, and thrived during her time there.
It was Aaliyah’s mother, Patricia Terry, who recognized her raw talent and helped her channel it into a business. Black Enterprise reports, “with the support of her family, Aaliyah recently opened Aaliyah’s Beauty Bar using the designs and concepts that she thought of on her own.”
Aaliyah strives to inspire other entrepreneurs with special needs to follow through with their passion.
