Black Woman Says Starbucks Employees Joked About Name on Drink Order

A Starbucks patron has accused the store’s baristas of making some negative comments about the name she used to order her drinks through the mobile app.

In a TikTok video, a user named @richblackwomantv said she placed an order under her channel name “Rich Black Woman” at a Starbucks in Goldsboro, North Carolina.

While sitting in front of the barista and waiting for her mobile order, she said she overheard the barista say that she “can’t wait to see who this is that comes in here to get this.” @richblackowmantv added that she continued to wait for her drink to be made.

When a separate barista placed the drink on the counter, that is when the TikTok influencer spoke up.

“I said, ‘It’s OK to say Black Woman,’ and you should’ve seen them freeze. Everybody froze,” she said. “I said to them, ‘You never know who is ordering from the app right in the store.'”

She added that she remained in the Starbucks for another hour and a half.

After finishing her drink and returning to the counter to question the barista about who her manager was, she discovered that the manager had taken part in the joking.

“I asked that so that I can 100% confirm that the manager was participating in this behavior. Disgusting. Thank God I learned how to make my chai at home, huh?” she added.

Users took to the videos comments to applaud @richblackwomantv for speaking up and sharing her frustrations about the baristas joking about her name. Many responders added that the baristas should not have been talking about patrons while on the job.

In a follow-up post, @richblackwomantv shared that she did get in touch with a Starbucks rep after complaining about her experience. But the resolution was to only give her a $10 gift card.

She added that she has since deleted her Starbucks app.
