Blackhawks and other NHL players take varied views on boycotting games for racial justice: ‘To say what’s right or wrong, it’s hard to say’

The Hockey Diversity Alliance called on the NHL to follow the example of other sports leagues and suspend its playoff games Thursday to protest the shooting of Jacob Blake by police.

According to multiple reports later in the afternoon, the NHL has postponed tonight’s slate: Game 3 between the Philadelphia Flyers and the New York Islanders and Game 3 between the Vegas Golden Knights and the Vancouver Canucks.

The NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks initiated a wave of boycotts in sports Wednesday, three days after a white Kenosha police officer shot Blake, who is black, seven times in the back Sunday during an attempt to arrest him. Blake survived and remained hospitalized Thursday.

Driven by players, the NBA, WNBA, MLS and Major League Baseball postponed games Wednesday and Thursday as a symbolic gesture against police brutality and racial injustice, and various NFL teams, including the Bears, canceled practices Thursday.
