Blaine Police continue receiving questions about cat attacks. Here’s what they found

Two weeks after advising residents to bring their cats inside at night, the Blaine Police Department released the results of its investigation into reports of missing cats in the area.

“We have seen a lot of conversation and received multiple inquiries about cats being attacked in Blaine,” a Facebook post by the department Thursday, Oct. 6.

But the department reported that it has received only two reports of cats that had been attacked this year.

“One was a coyote attack that was witnessed and the other was a severed head,” the post reads.

The Bellingham Herald has followed up with the department, asking if a cause of the severed head could be determined.

The department reported it also checked with the Whatcom Humane Society, which reported numerous calls regarding stray cats in the area and one call about a dog attack on a cat.

“So, if you do come across something nefarious regarding a whiskers, please call 911 and make a report,” the post reads, adding that missing cats should be reported to the Humane Society (360-733-2080) to see if the missing cats have been found by them.

The post reiterated the advice to “consider nighttime cover for your favorite whiskers,” and added that there is plenty of wildlife in the area “and they don’t understand rules.”
