Sberbank of Russia occupies part of the building, according to a Moscow Live Telegram post.

The fire began in a warehouse on the first floor of the unfinished building on Kutuzovsky Avenue and subsequent spread to the second floor, where another warehouse containing paint and varnish materials is located.

In a separate incident on the same day, a warehouse in the south of St. Petersburg owned by online retailer Wildberries caught fire. The Emergencies Ministry stated that finished products were affected.

According to Russian media, a source close to the Emergencies Ministry suggested arson as a potential cause in that case.

There are also claims that the fire alarm at the warehouse had falsely triggered multiple times in the week leading up to the incident.
