Bike rental firm’s owners list dazzling San Francisco waterfront home, shop for $10.9M

Jeff and Helena Sears, who started one of the first bicycle rental businesses in San Francisco 40 years ago, are selling a contemporary architectural gem overlooking Aquatic Park on the waterfront for $10.9 million, according to the Compass real estate firm.

In 2018, the Blazing Saddles founders built the unique home and work space with views of the harbor, the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz.

Blazing Saddles is one of the most well-known and largest bike rental companies in San Francisco. The Sears have retired and relocated in Mill Valley, closer to family, a company representative said.

What they left behind in San Francisco is a newly constructed and unique mixed-use building with commercial space on the ground floor and two luxury residential units on the upstairs — at 715 and 721 Beach Street, San Francisco, California.

“719 Beach is truly an exquisite unit, well-designed with captivating views and a rooftop deck that is perfect for the Blue Angels and Fourth of July fireworks viewing,” Compass listing agent Val Steele said in an email. “721 Beach, the one-bedroom, is also well-designed and thought out, and has a unique south garden. Both apartments offer terrific indoor-outdoor connections. 715-721 Beach offers an intimate connection to the San Francisco Bay and its history.”

Michelle Harris of Compass is a co-listing agent.

Luxury living near Fisherman’s Wharf

“The residential units in the building are designed with luxury living in mind, with attention to detail evident in every aspect of the design,” the official property listing states.

The open-concept three-bedroom apartment features floor-to-ceiling windows that offer breathtaking views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and the bay. It has a chef’s kitchen with two dishwashers, a hidden walk-in pantry, double island with Calacatta Oro marble and a wine fridge.

The commercial space spans over 4,500 square feet with a mezzanine level of 1,375 square feet, offices spaces and bathrooms. The C-2 zoning allows for a variety of business uses. The space is currently being leased to Blazing Saddles Inc. at a monthly rental rate of $25,000, according to Compass.

The property is located steps from San Francisco’s waterfront, Fisherman’s Wharf and Ghirardelli Square.
