These blenders might cut you or burn your things. About 4.8 million have been recalled

A blender should cut fruit, not your skin. Nor should it burn your possessions. So, BlendJet recalled about 4.9 million BlendJet 2 Portable Blenders sold in the United States and Canada.

“The recalled blenders can overheat or catch fire and the blender blades can break off, posing fire and laceration hazards to consumers,” the U.S. Consumer Product Commission recall notice states.

That’s not an idle concern. The recall notice says BlendJet knows about 329 times the blades broke; 49 times people got burned; one person who got sliced; 17 times the blenders overheated or started fires, causing $150,000 of property damage.

BlendJet wants customers with the blenders, which were sold from October 2020 through this November, to reach out to the company for a free replacement of the base. Do this by cutting the rubber seal on the base into three or more pieces, shoot a photo with the pieces and the serial number on the base and email it to safety@blendjet.com or upload it to the recall website.

To see if this recall concerns your blender, you can go to BlendJet’s site and enter your blender’s serial number.

For other questions, either go to the recall website hyperlinked above or call BlendJet Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Eastern time at 844-334-0562.
