Five-star sophomore Malik Monk drills ridiculous game-winning buzzer beaters in consecutive games
This Monk, apparently, never pledged a vow of silence.
Bentonville (Ark.) High five-star sophomore guard Malik Monk drilled back-to-back game-winning buzzer-beaters in his team's two games last week -- each one as impressive as the other -- cementing himself as one of the nation's top 2016 recruits (h/t MaxPreps).
After a posterizing dunk in the final two minutes kept it close against Springdale (Ark.) on Tuesday, Monk lofted a ridiculous catch-and-shoot triple from the sideline in his defender's face to turn a two-point deficit into a 57-56 victory (see video above).
Three nights later, the 6-foot-4, 170-pound 2-guard dribbled the seconds away on a tie game against Fayetteville (Ark.) before ripping a double-clutch 30-footer between two defenders right through the net for a 52-49 win (see video below).
After two heart-pounding wins in one week, Monk's coach had the appropriate reaction.
"These are going to kill me at a young age." Bentonville coach Jason McMahan told Northwest Arkansas Online. “I’m just glad we ended up on the right side of them, though.”
Monk totaled 50 points in the two victories. Rivals.com's No. 7 ranked sophomore in the nation, he has reportedly received offers from the likes of Kansas, Florida, Indiana, Memphis, Baylor and Arkansas after averaging 22.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.7 assists for Lepanto (Ark.) East Poinsett County as a freshman (he transferred over the summer), winning the 16U AAA national title over the summer and participating in USA Basketball's developmental program this past fall. All in all, a pretty loud year for this Monk.
