Wendy’s to sell lobster burger in Japan

The Sideshow

Wendy's and lobster have come together in a decidedly upscale fast-food combination. Two of the burger franchise's Tokyo outlets will soon offer a limited-time lobster surf & turf burger and a caviar & lobster sandwich.

U.S. lobster fans won't have the same luck, as there are no plans to offer the sandwiches outside of Japan.

"No plans for a lobster-and-hamburger sandwich here," Wendy's spokesman Bob Bertini told The Columbus Dispatch.

The new sandwiches are part of Wendy's effort to get a foothold in the Japanese market. Wendy's relaunched its franchise-expansion efforts into Japan in December 2011. But the seafood sandwiches will not be as affordable as the regular menu items and will reportedly cost around $20.

"Each market is different and seafood is a big part of the diet in Japan," Bertini told CBS Cleveland.

Some other unusually posh items on the Wendy's Japan menu include a porcini grilled chicken sandwich and a foie gras Rossini.
