College students would give up sex to trade textbooks for ebooks

College students dislike textbooks so much that 73% said they would give up dating, sex, or something else in their life just to buy an electronic version instead of a hardbound copy. This came from a survey by Kelton Research which was sponsored by education software startup Kno, so you can imagine how pleased they are with the results.

This desire for digital textbooks seems to stem in large part from the hassle of carrying around the heavy print versions. 62% of students who responded to the study said they would study more often if they didn't have to carry the books with them all the time. And think of all the extra time they would have for studying when not spending time on dating and sleeping with each other.

Some strides have already been made in providing college texts in ebook format, particularly by Amazon with its Kindle textbook rental program, but are traditional textbooks so much of a burden that being free of them is worth abstinence? If that's the extremes today's college student is willing to go to get rid of textbooks, the educational publishing industry should be looking into moving their products into ebook format before someone new does it for them.
