Political ad in Florida scares seniors with kill-hungry driverless cars

Driverless cars sure seem like the future. Google has already proven how safe these vehicles can be — their Google Car project has recently logged over 300,000 miles without an accident. But if you're an elderly voter in Florida, you'd better be on your guard. Driverless cars are coming, and they want to eat your Medicare and all sorts of other evil technology things.

Florida State Rep. Jeff Brandes, a Republican, is seeking a job promotion this fall to the Florida State Senate in the St. Petersburg area. It turns out that Brandes has been pretty forward thinking on the issue of Google's driverless car, and has proposed legislation to get the Google Car cruising up the scenic byways of the Sunshine State as they do in Nevada.

That doesn't sit well with his opponent in today's primary election, fellow Republican Rep. Jim Frische. The Committee to Protect Florida, in an attempt to boost Frische's candidacy, has put out the above negative ad against Brandes, helping all us undecided voters understand how terrified we should all be of these spooky cars that run on magic.

We've seen our share of contentious, truth-bending political ads before, but we've never seen anyone try to get a pitchfork-wielding mob focused on taking down driverless cars. Could such ads become standard during the 2012 campaign? We certainly hope so: It's crucial that our nation's elderly understand how these cars — clearly programmed to have pro-Soviet sympathies — will send their Social Security checks to China and make it so their grandkids can't visit anymore.
