Boehner reserving judgement on Rep. David Rivera

A little more than three weeks into his first term in Congress, Republican Rep. David Rivera of Florida continues to be dogged by a potential ethics scandal.

Rumors have swirled that both parties are preparing for the possibility Rivera could resign over an investigation into his financial connections to a dog track.

After Democrats weathered some high-profile ethics cases last year, Republicans have vowed to be tough on corruption.

But Republican Speaker John Boehner said he is reserving judgment about the case.

"We're waiting to see how this plays out," Boehner said Wednesday at a Capitol Hill press conference, The Hill reports.

Politico reported this week that Republicans are drawing up plans in the event Rivera is forced out or chooses to resign--and that Florida Democrats are also planning for that possibility.

The congressman yesterday rejected a report that one of his aides had been subpoenaed in the case.
