The 11 best 9/11 magazine covers since 9/11

For many Americans, the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 unfolded live on television. But some of the most powerful images of 9/11 and the days and weeks that followed were captured on magazine covers.

"They did exactly what magazines can do best," Ted Spiker, an associate professor of journalism at the University of Florida, wrote in a 2003 paper on the subject. "Communicate emotion on its opening page."

The American Society of Magazine Editors put together a great slideshow featuring more than 100 Sept. 11-themed covers, spanning the last decade; below are 11 of the best, including a Cutline favorite--Bloomberg BusinessWeek's Aug. 8, 2011, issue--that beat the rest of the 9/11 10th anniversary issues to the punch.
