Blood drives coming up in the Southern Tier

SOUTHERN TIER, N.Y. (WETM) — The American Red Cross is asking the public for a gift from the heart: blood donations.

According to the Red Cross, fewer people donate blood during the winter due to storms. Although thousands of people have donated in recent weeks to combat the national blood shortage, more donors are needed to keep the blood supply ready to help save lives.

The American Red Cross is asking people with all blood types, especially type O, to consider donating blood at one of the blood drives it’s holding across the Southern Tier this month. As an incentive, people who donate blood through the end of February will receive a $20 Amazon gift card via email. Those interested in donating blood can view a list of eligibility requirements on the Red Cross’s website.
