LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Blood donations in Arkansas have been low recently, and with recent winter weather it made it almost impossible to donate.
Our Blood Institute CEO Dr. John Armitage and Executive Director Carvin Brown stopped by KARK 4 News to talk about just how big of an issue the shortage is.
They discuss how dire the blood shortage in Arkansas is, what the impact of the winter weather had on the shortage and what you can do to help.
Blood can be donated every 56 days, with platelets donated as often as every seven days, up to 24 times a year.
Anyone healthy person who is 16 years old or older can give blood.
Appointments to donate can be made online at OBI.org or by calling 877-340-8777. Walk-ins are also welcome.
