MLK Day blood drive with Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc.

Each year, Americans across the country answer the call to come together on the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday to serve their neighbors and communities. In past years, thousands of individuals have volunteered in our community. In the spirit of the national day of service Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. is hosting a blood drive on Monday, Jan. 16. They are looking for volunteers to give a life-saving blood donation between 8 and 11:30 a.m. in the City Hall Atrium, at 401 N. MLK Volunteer Day with Opportunity House

Celebrate MLK day on Jan. 16 by volunteering with Opportunity House and helping the community at the same time! Opportunity House is a volunteer-run resale store that sells items donated by Bloomington community members. Proceeds from the store help support the income-based childcare and self-sufficiency programs of Monroe County United Ministries. Various activities will be offered, including tagging clothes, quality control, pricing artwork, organizing, and stocking the store! Why not bring a friend and work together? MLK volunteer work day with Tandem Community Birth Center, Postpartum House

Tandem is working to open the region's first midwife-run medical clinic and birth center as well as a postpartum house to serve families in our community. They are looking for volunteers to join them on MLK Day, Jan. 16, between 1-4 p.m. for a day of service as they continue work to open their community birth center. They will be smashing out drywall and getting everything ready for new flooring, new walls and more. It will be rough work with lots of dust, so bring a mask, eye protection and gloves. (They will have limited extra masks and eye protection available). MLK Day & 40 Days of Peace volunteer opportunities with My Sister’s Closet

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 16, and during the 40 days of Peace between Jan. 16 and Feb. 27, My Sister’s Closet will host multiple volunteer opportunities in the spirit of service. My Sister’s Closet of Monroe County is a nonprofit established to build a stronger community and promote economic self-sufficiency by providing women with professional support services and tools for success. Opportunities include site cleaning, shoe and purse shining, donation sorting, seasonal relocation of donations, data entry, tagging, maintenance and more. These opportunities will feature a reflection on the teachings of Martin Luther King Jr. by choosing a volunteer each hour to read an MLK quote to the rest of the volunteers.
