Bloomfield man injured in Montclair shooting as investigation continues

An 18-year-old Bloomfield man was shot late Monday in Montclair, according to a police statement.

The victim, who suffered a single gunshot to his abdomen, was admitted to University Hospital and was in stable condition as of Tuesday morning, police said.

Officers stopped a vehicle carrying the victim, along with a 20-year-old man from East Orange and a 23-year-old driver from Clifton shortly before 10 p.m. on Maple Avenue, Lt. Terence Turner said.

The other passenger and the driver were unharmed in the fracas, according to police, who discovered 9mm shell casings near Monroe Place, according to Turner.

No information regarding a suspect has been released, and officers were waiting to speak to the victim, as of Tuesday afternoon.

Superintendent of Schools Jonathan Ponds stated that neither the incident, nor the resulting investigation, disrupted classes at nearby Glenfield Middle School on Tuesday.
